FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Two Fort Wayne Fire Department crews were honored this afternoon for their work in rescuing a six-year-old girl and a man from two separate fires.

Deputy Chief Adam O’Connor tells WOWO News in both cases, it was truly a team effort:

“On December 23rd, Engine Two and Engine Eleven arrived fairly quickly to a structure fire at around 11am… Engine Eleven went in as soon as they got there and using thermal imaging, found a man and rescued him,” O’Connor says. “Truck One responded to a house fire on Taylor Avenue on January 1st, and went through a second-story window, and found a six-year-old girl.”

Both the man and the girl recovered from their injuries.

“They’re (firefighters) just basically doing what they were trained to do, and doing it flawlessly,” O’Connor adds.

Both crews received a Unit Citation from Fire Chief Eric Lahey and were also recognized for their heroism by Mayor Tom Henry.
