FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne General Electric campus will have a new name after development plans for it are finished: “Electric Works.”

The name was unveiled at Greater Fort Wayne Inc.’s annual meeting Thursday night. The three development partners working to revitalize the campus – Baltimore-based Cross Street Partners, Indianapolis-based Greenstreet Ltd., and Decatur-based Biggs Development – chose the name to pay homage to its history.

The 31-acre, $300-million development will include housing, retail, and community and education spaces.

Fort Wayne-based Weigand Construction was named Construction Manager for the project earlier this month. Construction is expected to start next year.
