INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Authorities say a newborn boy is in good health after a man used Indiana’s safe haven law to drop the unwanted child off at an Indianapolis fire station.

The Indianapolis Fire Department says the man showed up Wednesday morning at a fire station, rang its doorbell and gave the child to firefighters. He told firefighters he wanted the child to go to child welfare services.

Fire officials say the man, who appeared to be in his mid-20s, told firefighters the child was born Tuesday and not at a hospital.

The baby was wearing a clean diaper and appeared clean, content and in good health.

Indiana’s safe haven law allows adults to anonymously drop off an unwanted child less than 30 days old at a hospital, fire station or police station.
