FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): With predicted temperatures in the 90s in Fort Wayne this weekend, you might want to start thinking about ways to stay cool.

Swimming pools, sprinklers and fans are always a great way to cool off, but they may not always be available.

Here are 6 unique ways to beat the heat this sunny season:

1. Keep a spray bottle nearby

A small spray bottle can be bought almost anywhere for as little as $1.00. Filling the bottle with water and storing it in the refrigerator is a quick, simple way to splash your face, according to MedicineNet.com.

2. Limit caffeine intake

Caffeine can cause major dehydration. Caffeinated beverages such as coffee, soda and tea can pull water from the body, according to WikiHow.

You might want to exchange a pop for a nice glass of cold water.

3. Chill your sheets before bed

Placing your sheets in plastic bags and storing them in the freezer for a few hours before heading to bed will cool you down during the night, suggests Reader’s Digest.

Just imagine that welcome feeling of flipping your pillow over to the cool side throughout your entire bed.

4. Eat spicy food

I know, even thinking of eating anything hot might sounds awful during a heat wave, but several studies show that sweating more helps you cool off faster, according to the Huffington Post.

5. Plan your day indoors.

If you’re planning an outing, try to find something inside. There are several fun places to go that are indoors and won’t cause you to overheat. A visit to the library, mall or museum would be perfect for a hot sunny day.

6. Be aware of the car’s temperature.

Your car’s temperature can turn deadly within a matter of minutes. With an outside temperature of 80 degrees, the temperature of your car can go from 99 degrees to 123 degrees within one hour of sitting outside, according to the National Weather Service.

Keep windows down or the air conditioning on while driving and don’t keep animals or young children in a locked vehicle.
