FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): “Playing games, healing kids.” That’s the motto of the annual Extra Life video game marathon, which sees gamers across the country raising money for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
WOWO’s own Darrin Wright is participating for the second straight year.
“For normal marathons, people will sponsor a runner for running a certain distance,” he says. “This is essentially the same thing, except instead of running, we’ll be playing video games for 24 consecutive hours.”
“It’s all about gamers doing something they’re passionate about to raise money for a good cause, and that’s to help cover the medical costs of children who are in the hospital. It’s a great way for us to show that we care about them.”
Since 2008 the campaign has raised more than $22 million for local children’s hospitals like the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
Darrin’s team starts their marathon at 11 a.m. Friday. Find out more and donate here.
