UPDATE, FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): President-elect Donald Trump is once again taking to Twitter, this time to share his thoughts about United Steelworkers Local 1999 President Chuck Jones.

The tweets come on the heels of Jones criticizing Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence’s efforts to save Carrier jobs in Indiana. During a press conference in Indianapolis, Trump originally projected that over 1,100 Carrier jobs would be saved, instead of being outsourced to Mexico. However, only 800 jobs will be staying in Indiana. Jones told the Washington Post that he thinks Trump lied about the figures and took credit for saving 350 jobs that were never going to be outsourced in the first place.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The president of the union representing Carrier employees is criticizing President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence for some of their efforts in trying to save jobs from being outsourced to Mexico.

United Steelworkers Local 1999 President Chuck Jones, tells WOWO News, the duo is claiming to have saved jobs that were never going to be outsourced in the first place.

“Trump and Pence are trying to take credit for these 350 jobs that were never going anywhere,” said Jones.

About 800 jobs will stay in Indiana – instead of more than 1,100 originally predicted, that according to numbers sent out to union workers Monday.

“I am very grateful to Trump, for getting involved and saving 800 jobs, without his involvement, they might not have been saved, where I’ve got issues at is, he made promises to save the Carrier facility and then when Trump came out… we were hearing the same thing that everyone else was, over 1,100 (jobs) … When we get into the meeting and hear its 730 of our members’ jobs being saved, I ‘ve got an issue with that because there was a lot of people that got their hopes up.”

730 manufacturing jobs (which the USW represents) will be saved along with an additional 70 office jobs.  However, Chuck was quick to point out that 500 jobs at the Indianapolis plant will still be leaving in the deal.

“…800 are staying, we’ve got 550 of our union members that are going to be losing their jobs, and then somewhere probably in the vicinity of 70 or 80 office people.”

He went on to say that he feels likes families have been on a roller-coaster ride.

“It’s just horrible not knowing if you’re going to have a job or what you’re going to do if you don’t… these people have been on peaks and valleys since both of these announcements have been made and I know the people in Huntington likewise.”

All 700 jobs at the plant in Huntington will be lost.
