(WOWO News)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): One person is dead and two others are wounded after an early-morning eruption of gunfire in Fort Wayne.

The Fort Wayne Police Department says they were called to the 4800 block of Gaywood Drive, across the street from Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School, just before 2:30 this morning on several reports of gunshots in the area.

They found one person down next to a vehicle, and learned that two other victims had been taken to nearby hospitals. All were badly wounded, with one of the victims initially reported in critical condition, who later passed away. The others are reportedly in serious condition.

Later, the Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Dominik Alaijuon Files, 28 of Fort Wayne. His Cause of Death was determined to be Multiple Gunshot Wounds and the Manner of Death has been ruled a Homicide.

Files is the 18th Homicide victim in Allen County this year.

A number of area homes were also hit by bullets. Police recovered a couple of weapons at the scene, including an “assault-style” rifle.

There’s no word yet on any arrests.
