Two people rescued from balconies during Fort Wayne apartment fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department is investigating after a fire broke out at Winchester Woods Apartments Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to the 1800 block of Woodhaven Drive just after 11:15 a.m. to reports of an apartment fire.

Once at the scene, they found a couple people stuck on second floor balconies needing to be rescued, as well as four people who had self-evacuated.

Two people were rescued from balconies, and a dog was found alive in a second floor apartment. It was turned over to animal control.

The fire was under control within 12 minutes, and no one was injured.

The building suffered from moderate fire and smoke damage, and minor water damage.
