Trial starts for Fort Wayne man accused of triple homicide

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A 19-year-old man who is accused of killing three people will be in court on Friday.

Artavius Richards is charged with three counts of murder and his trial begins Friday, according to Fort Wayne’s NBC.

In February, police say Richards and Darrell McDaniel killed 23-year-old Mohamedtaha Omar, 20-year-old Adam Kamel Mekki and 17-year-old Muhannad Adam Tairab in the 800 block of East Lewis Street. Police believe the shootings were linked to a marijuana robbery.

Two of the victims were Muslim, but police say there is no reason to believe it was a hate crime. In March, the Fort Wayne Muslim community was offering a $10,000 reward for information about the murders.

McDaniel’s trial will begin on Feb. 27, 2017.
