FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne TinCaps wants your help in honoring people who have served our county.
The team, OmniSource Corporation and Steel Dynamics Inc., are looking for nominations of active duty or veteran military personnel to honor at games, according to a press release.
To nominate someone, residents need to submit a short essay why the community should know the person’s story. Submit the essays at TinCapsHeroes.com.
Selected nominees will get VIP treatment during a home TinCaps game. The treatment includes tickets and recognition before that night’s fireworks.
“In sports, people often misuse the word ‘hero,’” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “The athlete who comes through with a game-winning hit should be celebrated, but not called a hero. That word should be reserved for those who dedicate and sacrifice their lives to serve us.”
