Three plans with three different price tags for SACS

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Normally, we only get one option, but this time, we’re getting three when it comes to infrastructure improvements throughout the Southwest Allen County Schools’ District.

SACS’ Superintendent Dr. Philip Downs tells WOWO News, the board came up with the different options while investigating renovation updates. He says the investigation resulted in numerous price tags, therefore, they wanted to get the public’s input.

“We were just looking at all of these different options so that we can go out to the community and say, OK look, for the next 20 years, what do we, in Southwest Allen, want to see in our school buildings and I am talking mostly Homestead because that’s where we see most of the action.”

These options will be presented during five public meetings set for August and September 2017. The meetings will be facilitated by IPFW and will take place in different spots all throughout the community.

“The board and I are acutely aware that we have a short tenure in the long history of Southwest Allen,” says Dr. Downs. “This decision should not be ours, it should be the communities’.”

During the meetings, all three plans will be discussed and examined. Reports form each meeting will be complied so the school board can draw an accurate consensus in order to make a well informed decision.

Dr. Downs says the first meeting date has not been set, but he knows it will take place in late August, once the school year is officially underway. Then a few weeks later, more public meetings will follow regarding funding options.
