Three local groups make Fort Wayne Legacy Fund requests

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne Joint Legacy Funding Committee is going to consider three different requests Thursday night.

Grant requests have been made from the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory and the YMCA. The Clyde Theatre in Quimby Village has made a loan request, City Councilman Geoff Paddock told the Journal-Gazette.

The botanical conservatory wants $200,000 to help construct a walkway between the conservatory and the Embassy Theatre. YMCA is seeking $300,000 to go towards its $3.6 million crisis center on the southeast side.

As for the Clyde Theatre, the owners want a $1 million to be repaid over 10 years to help pay for renovations to the long-dormant theatre.

If history is any indication, the three projects face a long shot to get recommended to the full city council for approval. The council only approved one funding request between October 2014 and December 2015.

The fund, which came from the sale of the city’s old power utility in 2014, has $37 million and will have $78.7 million by 2025 if no money is spent.
