FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A person who was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run crash led police on a chase that landed him in the hospital early Sunday morning.

The Fort Wayne Police Department says officers were called to the area of Calhoun and Tillman streets just after 1am after a witness saw the driver get into a crash with another vehicle, then flee the scene. Police caught up with him and tried to get him to pull over, but he refused, eventually leading them on a chase going the wrong way on Clinton Street.

Police were able to take out the vehicle’s tires using stop sticks, but even after it came to a halt the man refused to get out of the car. Police were eventually able to drag him out and got him to an area hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. His condition has since improved to “serious.”

The incident is still under investigation.
