Suspect collapses, has heart attack while in custody

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A wanted man who led Fort Wayne police on a wild chase ended up collapsing while in custody Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to the LKQ “Pick Your Part” auto parts business on Moeller Rd at about 4:17pm on a tip that a wanted man was there, driving a stolen pickup.

When officers arrived the man took off on foot, leading police on a chase that included jumping a fence and climbing among some stopped rail cars. He eventually climbed into an empty coal car and ended up trapped by police, but shortly after being arrested he collapsed and went into cardiac arrest.

Medics were able to revive him and he’s currently in critical condition at a local hospital.

Two women who had been with him at the business were also arrested: one on a warrant, the other for possession of narcotics.

None of the suspects’ names have been released.
