FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The planetarium at the University of Saint Francis could have a new home soon.

The University announced the Edwin Schouweiler Planetarium will close at the end of the month, due to upkeep costs.

USF said in a press release that Science Central Director Martin Fisher approached them about acquiring the equipment for a program expansion at Science Central’s Clinton Street facility.

“Astronomy-education is a strong component of our mission, as we provide exhibits and programs for our area schools, teachers, scouts and the general public,” Fisher said. “We are determining the feasibility of expanding to include planetarium shows. There are quite a few considerations involved in the decision.”

No definitive decisions have been made by either side yet, but the University has promised to make an announcement about the planetarium’s future home before June 1.
