VINCENNES, Ind. (AP): A police chief says a southwestern Indiana teacher is recovering from numerous injuries she suffered when attacked by a 16-year-old student.
Knox County court documents say Vincennes Lincoln High School teacher Cheryl Clemens had a broken nose, swollen eyes and head injuries from the May 11 assault.
Clemens was treated in an Evansville hospital’s intensive-care unit, but Vincennes Police Chief Dusty Luking says she has a strong resolve and intends a return to teaching.
The Vincennes Sun-Commercial reports the teenager faces adult felony charges of battery and robbery for the attack and taking a diamond wedding ring from Clemens.
Court documents say the boy is a hearing-impaired student of Clemens and told officers he hated her. He’s charged with kicking Clemens’ face and hitting her head with a chair.
