COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP): Ohio’s state school board says the deadline to apply for superintendent is April 8, but so far no one has put in for it.

Board President Tom Gunlock tells The Columbus Dispatch that he wants to name a new superintendent by June.

Gunlock says he wants a leader who can handle the state’s different educational and political factions.

Associate Superintendent Lonny Rivera was appointed to temporarily replace Richard Ross, who retired on Dec. 31. Rivera says he doesn’t want the job though.

Though no one has applied, some have inquired about the job.

Gunlock says he’ll ask each board member to recommend a successor. He’ll then interview a handful of candidates who receive the most interest.
