New synthetic turf approved for Spuller Stadium

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Northrop and Snider high schools’ football players will be playing on a new synthetic turf field at Spuller Stadium beginning next fall.

The Journal Gazette reports on Monday, the Fort Wayne Community Schools board approved a $948,991 construction contract with Motz Group for the new field.

The new field was unanimously approved, as the existing grass turf gets torn up quickly. The lifespan for the new synthetic turf is 10 to 12 years.

The field will include Northrop’s logo, but Snider will be recognized when its teams play with other means, such as banners.

The new turf will also make Spuller Stadium a potential host for large band competitions, and sectional and regional events.

The work is expected to be completed by August 2.
