FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Its been a hot summer and a hot start to September.

While the temperatures are in the 90s this week, there are 16 Fort Wayne Community Schools that don’t have air conditioning, according to our news partners at 21Alive.

Thanks to a referendum, the schools will eventually get air conditioning. The project might not be complete until 2022 or 2023.

“We have to stagger the funding and there just isn’t the local worker base to do that many projects at once,” FWCS Spokesperson Krista Stockman told 21Alive.

Stockman said its not ideal conditions, but that the schools are use to the heat and know how to keep the kids comfortable.

“We make sure we have fans running. We remind parents to send their kids in appropriate, lightweight clothing. We let the kids have water bottles and take frequent water breaks,” she said.
