Manchester schools improvement plan questioned

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (WOWO): An area school district has a battle on its hands when it presents a building project proposal to voters next month.

Officials at Manchester Community Schools are looking to spend $16.6-million on facility improvements, including moving the main offices to near the front entrances of all their school buildings as an improvement to school safety.

“In this world, we have to have a situation where when a visitor comes into our building, they’re in a controlled setting. They can’t move through,” says interim Superintendent Mike Pettibone, speaking to our Partners in News at ABC 21.

The bulk of the spending, however, would be on improvements and additions for sporting events – such as new artificial turf for the high school football field and a new fieldhouse – which opponents say is the real focus instead of safety.

If approved, homeowners within the district would have to pay an extra $70 a year in property taxes on a home worth $100,000.

Also keep in mind with interest, this ends up being over $26.6 million the tax payers are on the hook for. On top of $11+ million still owed on the last bond. In a town with the population of 5900. And the plan was dreamed up by a secret committee that the board will not release the names of who was on the committee, where they met, when they met, what was discussed, and never allowed the community any input on the project. And the town just lost a 100+ employer.

Prep time to voice a No side. Check out MCS Referendum the misguided truth page. How about you call former business mgr Steve Shumaker for a comment. He sat in the seat!
N M News Journal ran. 1000 word letter in paper from him two weeks ago. Your TV station got played by the PAC. No Edward R Morrow candidates at Tv 21 or 33 no due diligence. Disgusted
