Major expansion underway at Central Lutheran

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WOWO): A major expansion at Central Lutheran School in New Haven is officially underway.

The $6 million dollar project will add a new gymnasium, preschool wing and classrooms to its campus, according to the Journal Gazette.

The project has been in the works for several years since a gift was given to the school by farming brothers James and Larry Nahrwold of New Haven.

About five years ago the brothers left their $2 million estate earmarked for the facility.

One of the biggest changes will be the relocation of the school’s preschool from the basement of Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Green Street, next to the New Haven campus.

Principal Kevin Creutz told the Journal Gazette that school officials had been talking about adding space to the 64-year-old school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade for three decades.

Enrollment for the 2017-18 academic year will begin in January.
