HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WOWO): A Huntington woman secured the Libertarian nomination for the 3rd District Congress seat this November.

The Indiana Libertarian Party’s Central Committee chose Pepper Snyder of Huntington over the weekend, according to a press release. She is a benefit recovery specialist for Xerox.

In her statement, she says she is going to campaign on her “message of individual liberty and fiscal responsibility”. She says candidates “look to government to micromanage both society and the economy” and that she is the only candidate in the 3rd District race “who wants government out of both our personal lives and our wallets.”

She’ll face off with Republican Jim Banks and Democrat Tommy Schrader for Marlin Stutzman’s seat in Congress. Stutzman cannot keep his seat because of his failed race for U.S. Senate.

Scott Wise got about 4 percent of the Libertarian vote for Congress in 2010 and 2014. William Larsen got more than 5 percent in 2008. Libertarians didn’t run a 3rd District Congress candidate in 2012.

Libertarians also selected former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson as their candidate for President this past weekend. Former Massachusetts Governor William Weld will be his running mate.
