LAGRANGE, Ind. (WOWO): There is a new twist to the old IRS phone scam.

That, from police, who say 911 dispatchers have received several calls from residents who have gotten calls from people claiming to be from the IRS.

Once these callers are hung up on, residents report receiving a second call from a local phone number, which is the same as the LaGrange Police Department with someone claiming to be an officer asking why they hung up and trying to make them believe that they’re in trouble.

It’s just part of the scam. Police say to hang up on the callers and do not give out any personal information.
