Jehl proposes part-time employee to monitor Red River progress

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): One Fort Wayne City Councilman is expected to make a pitch at tonight’s City Council meeting to basically hire someone with the sole purpose of keeping an eye on the city’s trash contractor.

According to the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly, Councilman Russ Jehl feels that Red River Waste Solutions needs someone to keep an eye on them to make sure the contractor handles missed trash pickups.

In their first year with the City, Red River was fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for late or missed pickups, and Jehl argues that $3,000 per month could go from those fines to paying a part-time employee to handle any future complaints about the service.

He adds that while service has improved in recent months, he’s still getting complaints, and wants to make sure those residents get results.
