Ivy Tech gives diploma to over a thousand students

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  More than a thousand students officially graduated from Ivy Tech on Friday.

The 46th annual commencement ceremony took place at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.  Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public post-secondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system.

Over 1,300 associate degrees, certificates, and technical certificates will be handed out at the ceremony.

The College awarded an honorary degree to Sen. Dennis Kruse and Tim Borne.

Kruse was an Indiana state representative from 1989 to 2004 and is a current Indiana state senator for the 14th District. He is chairperson of the Education and Career Development Committee.

Borne is the founder of Asher Agency, an advertising, marketing, and public relations firm in Fort Wayne.  He is also a member of the College’sDream Big capital campaign committee.

Ivy Tech serves nearly 200,000 students annually and has campuses throughout Indiana.

The Keynote Speaker was Kevin Wall.  He’s an Emmy Award-winning producer, activist, and “new media entrepreneur.”  Wall is a Fort Wayne native who lives in Los Angeles, is a North Side High School graduate who began producing music events at the Embassy Theatre.
