Indiana’s safest city is… (not Fort Wayne)

INDIANA (WOWO): Residents in a city about an hour from Fort Wayne can sleep easy knowing they live in the safest city in Indiana.

A report by Safewise named Ligonier the safest city in the state. The company reviewed FBI Crime Report statistics from 2014 and population data to get the ranking, according to SafeWise.

They eliminated cities with less than 4,000 residents and cities that didn’t submit a crime report. SafeWise narrowed down the top 10 safest cities list based based on the number of reported violent and property crimes like aggravated assault, murder, rape, robbery, burglary, arson and motor vehicle theft.

The company also calculated the likelihood of violent or property crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city.
