Indianapolis police arrest 26 people in criminal roundup

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Officers have arrested 26 known offenders and drug dealers in what’s being called the largest operation in the history of the Indianapolis metropolitan Police Department.

Indianapolis police were joined by state police and the FBI, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration and other city agencies in the roundup Saturday.

IMPD Chief Troy Riggs says the operation was aimed not only at removing criminals from the streets but also at gathering information to build cases.

IMPD says more than 150 officers targeted homes in the city’s North, East and Northwest Districts. The neighborhoods were selected based on an analysis of drug-related homicides, aggravated assaults, crime reporting and other criminal activity.

Officers also confiscated heroin, cocaine, marijuana, guns, cash, and cars.
