Indianapolis police arrest more than 200 as part of sweep

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Indianapolis police say they’ve arrested more than 200 people on mostly drug-related charges as part of an enforcement sweep.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says 13 search warrants were served this week under a partnership with federal, state and local law enforcement. Police seized heroin, cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine along with 30 guns, nine vehicles and nearly $60,000 in cash.

In all, police say that 227 arrests were made. The so-called October Enforcement Sweep follows Operations First Step and Operation Next Step. It’s part of a citywide effort to address violence and quality-of-life issues in Indianapolis neighborhoods.

Mayor Joe Hogsett says in a statement that there’s a commitment to do “everything we can to combat the scourge of violence and make sure all residents feel safe in their community.”
