Indianapolis mayor’s son arrested on drug charges

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Police have arrested the son of Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett on drug charges.

WXIN-TV reports that 18-year-old William Hogsett was arrested July 1 after officers saw his car cross the center line and pulled him over in Rushville, the mayor’s hometown, about 30 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

He passed a field sobriety test but was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

Police say the amount of marijuana was less than 30 grams.

Hogsett was taken to Rush County Jail. He posted bond and was released. Two passengers in the car face the same charges.

A spokeswoman for Mayor Hogsett said he “appreciates the seriousness of this matter” and will spend the coming days with his teenage son and family.
