FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Indiana State Police post in Fort Wayne has a new investigation tool to their arsenal: Trooper Christopher Davis and his partner Duke.

The pair was one of four new State Police K-9 teams who graduated during a ceremony last week. Now Indiana has 40 K-9 teams across the state, according to a press release from the Indiana State Police.

Davis is a seven-year police veteran and Duke has completed 14 weeks of intense training in narcotic searching, aggression control, obedience and searching buildings and items.

Duke is a certified police service dog through the International Police Work Dog Association. He’s certified in detecting drug smells related to methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, ecstasy and heroin.

“The primary initiative of the ISP K-9 team is to search for and locate suspect(s) or evidence that can be linked to a specific crime,” ISP K-9 trainer Master Trooper Kevin Waters said. “The dog is one of the few investigation tools that is available to the patrol team.”
