Indiana presidental primary 2016: Election updates, by the numbers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  As the nation is watching the Hoosier state, turnout is already heavier than four years ago.

This could be a record day in Allen County.  The Election Board tells WOWO News 15,907 people voted early, which is up from 2,109 in 2012.

The Allen County Election Board said they still need to count the some 3,100 mailed ballots, and as of 11:50 a.m. over 35,000 people have voted in person.

If you include early voting, a total of 50,666 have voted so far this primary in Allen County.

Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders all made stops in Fort Wayne over the last few days, while Hillary Clinton sent President Bill Clinton to the area in her absence.

Indiana Republicans are also choosing a U.S. Senate nominee between U.S. Reps. Marlin Stutzman and Todd Young. They are bidding to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Dan Coats.

In the 3rd Congressional district, Republican voters are also choosing between Jim Banks, Kip Tom, Liz Brown, Pam Galloway, Kevin Howell and Mark Baringer.  For Democrats, Todd Nightenhelser, John Roberson and Tommy Schrader are up for the nomination.
