INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): The 2015 ISTEP test had some major problems, and now lawmakers are looking to do away with the test completely.

The House Education Committee unanimously voted Tuesday to get rid of the test as of July 1st, 2017. House Education Chairman Bob Behning told the Journal Gazette the test has outlived its life expectancy. The move comes after Governor Pence and lawmakers on both sides voted to hold schools and teachers blameless for a drop in student performance due to a much tougher 2015 test.

The proposal now has to pass the full House, then be approved by the State Board of Education.
