Indiana Department of Education announces Family Friendly Schools

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): A couple local schools were named a 2016-2017 Family Friendly School.

Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz announced 44 schools that were named Family Friendly Schools on Monday afternoon. The schools were selected based on its commitment to fostering an involvement of families and community in its school, according to the Indiana Department of Education.

“When families are engaged, students succeed,” said Ritz. “As an educator for more than 30 years, I have seen firsthand the impact that families can have on a child’s education.”

The department said the schools must demonstrate a commitment to addressing the academic, physical emotional and social needs of its students. The schools must also promote involvement of families both in school and in the community.
