FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Crews for Indiana Michigan Power have been working on restoring service to approximately 27,000 customers whose power went out thanks to wind storms that swept through their service territory all day Sunday.

As of 9am, more than 400 I&M employees and contractors have restored power to nearly 80% of those impacted by the storms. About 350 customers still in the dark in northeast Indiana, including the Fort Wayne area, should be back up and running by 6pm. 400 customers in north-central Indiana, including South Bend and Elkhart, should be restored by 4pm. Another 350 customers in east-central Indiana, including Muncie and Marion, should be restored by 6pm.

Another 4,500 customers in southwest Michigan should be restored by 11pm.

I&M encourages the public to remain vigilant about the safety hazards that may still be present as a result of Sunday’s storm. Some trees that may have been damaged Sunday could still be in danger of falling or dropping branches and limbs.
