HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WOWO): An area school district has launched a legal fight to take ownership of the land where it plays its home football games.

Huntington County Community Schools is seeking the legal fight over Kriegbaum Field, which was donated to the district back in 1927 to be used as Huntington North’s athletic field. Superintendent Randy Harris tells Fort Wayne’s NBC the district is looking at moving football games elsewhere, but the deal says that if they do, the land reverts back to the family.

“There’s a cloud over the property with the reverter clause that was part of the original document,” Harris says.

District officials think the restriction is no longer enforceable, which the family disputes.
