Hillegas Road to enter multi-year construction project

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Another busy Fort Wayne road is slated for construction.

About 22,000 vehicles use Hillegas Road every day, as it’s a very commonly used stretch of road between State and Coliseum Boulevards.

Unfortunately, it’s also prone to traffic backups and can be a bit treacherous, whether it’s due to wintry weather or someone stopping to make a turn into a driveway or neighborhood.

City engineers now tell our Partners in News at ABC 21 Hillegas will be widened to four lanes, with a center turn lane added. The bad news is we don’t know for sure yet when work will start, and it could take until 2035 to finish.

Seriously? 2035? That’s 16 years. That has to be a typo, right?
