Haley Elementary named one of America’s Healthiest Schools

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Haley Elementary was recently recognized as one of America’s Healthiest Schools.

The school was recognized for increasing physical activity and encouraging healthy food choices for both students and staff.

The award was presented by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation Organization.

Haley Elementary earned the Bronze Level Healthier Generation National Healthy School Award, and is the first school in Fort Wayne to be included on the national list.

Nationwide, 461 schools from 26 states and the District of Columbia were recognized as America’s Healthiest Schools.

Haley met the following criteria to be named a Healthy School:

  • Meet or exceed federal nutrition standards for school meals and snacks
  • Offer breakfast daily
  • Implement district wellness policies and update progress annually
  • Provide students with at least 60 minutes of physical education per week and ensure physical activity throughout the school day
  • Participate in Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program, one of the nation’s largest school-based childhood obesity prevention initiatives

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a national organization that empowers kids to develop lifelong, healthy habits.
