Grant County man pleads guilty to Unemployment fraud

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): A 41-year-old Gas City man has pleaded guilty to unemployment insurance fraud.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says Jason Scharnowske admitted to claiming a little more than $14,000 in unemployment benefits while also working and receiving wages.

His scam was discovered by a DWD employee who noticed it through the use of agency records, and began an investigation. Scharnowske has been ordered to repay the money, and was also sentenced to 545 days of probation.
