GM plans $85-million investment in Marion facility

MARION, Ind. (WOWO): General Motors is planning a major investment in Grant County.

General Motors will invest $85 million in its Marion plant, which will keep the jobs of 1,200 employees in Indiana. The proposal to spend $85 million over the next 10 years for new tools and equipment at the Marion stamping plant went before the city council two months ago.

Councilwoman Lynn Johnson says the deal gives the option of adding another 100 jobs to the facility as well, calling it a “big deal”:

“We think that our contribution is going to enhance what they’re able to do, throughout the United States and throughout the world,” Johnson says.

An official announcement on the deal is expected next week.
