Fort Wayne trail system honored by statewide group

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne is being recognized statewide for its trail system.

The Greenways Foundation of Indiana has awarded the City of Fort Wayne with its Outstanding Local Government award. They commend the city for its development, construction and management of the city’s 67 miles of trails.

The group is also honoring Fort Wayne Trails Inc. as an Outstanding Trail Group. Its recognizing the local group for providing funding for the Pufferbelly Trail north of Carroll Road as well as providing engineering and design work for the Covington Road Trail.

US Census data from 2013 shows that over 86,000 Fort Wayne residents live within a half mile of a trail. 36 additional miles of trails are planned over the next three years in Allen County.
