Fort Wayne Mayor Henry announces 2019 proposed city budget

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry announced the City’s proposed 2019 budget Thursday.

The property tax supported budget, also known as the Civil City budget, totals $173 million.

A major part of next year’s budget focuses on public safety. The City plans to hire 25 new recruits for both the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) and the Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD).

The FWPD will also hire seven additional officers, totaling 480 Fort Wayne police.

The FWFD will have 363 firefighters in total. The fire department also plans to purchase two new fire engines.

$31.1 million will go toward the continuation of neighborhood infrastructure projects, which includes $23.1 million for neighborhood streets and roads, $6.5 million for sidewalks and alleys, and $1.5 million for bridges.

$3 million will go toward investments in maintenance projects in City Parks.
