Fort Wayne man charged with murder in hotel-lot shooting

Fort Wayne, Ind. (WOWO) Joshua R. Mackin, 33, was arrested at his home on Friday morning in the 12000 block of North Shore Drive for the Feb. 19th murder at the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel according to the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.

Samuel Douglas Westlake, 37, was shot and killed by Mackin, who was apparently his half-brother.  According to court documents, Mackin believed that Westlake had sex with his girlfriend.  Apparently both men were arguing earlier that day.  Westlake was picking up a friends truck at the hotel when he was shot. Both men were in trucks that were sitting side by side and also a witness was in the passenger seat of Mackin’s truck when he shot from inside his truck and killed Westlake. There was a witness in the passenger seat of the Mackin’s truck.

Westlake was found around 2 p.m. that day in a dark gray Jeep with the windows shot out.  Video cameras confirmed what witnesses told the Fort Wayne Police Department.  The victim had explained to witnesses prior to the murder that he figured Mackin would kill him because of his affair with his girlfriend.  Mackin is being held at the Allen County Jail without bail.
