FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne lawmaker’s new bill would give police departments in Indiana the right to fly drones in public places, without a warrant.

Republican State Representative Bob Morris tells our Partners in News at ABC 21 several officers came to him for help in being able to use drones in special or emergency situations.

“(It can be used) where a police emergency has been declared, and if a permit has been pulled for a public gathering.”

If the measure passes, police could fly a drone over a public event within 400 feet above ground, and the video could be used as evidence.

Morris says that’s already legally permissible at altitudes above 400 feet.
