Fort Wayne GM plant wins quality award

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): High praise for the Fort Wayne General Motors plant.

The plant that builds the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks has received the J.D. Power Gold Plant Quality Award for the Americas region. That distinction was announced by Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry Thursday.

The award is issued based on the lowest number of defects and malfunctions reported, excluding design-related problems. Plant manager Michael Thomas credited his team of workers, saying they build each vehicle as if it were their own.

The plant was founded in 1986.
