FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Video games have been considered by some to be a waste of time, but a Fort Wayne school is hoping to make the hobby pay off for some.
Indiana Tech is going to offer 25 to 35 scholarships to students who play League of Legends or Hearthstone in the fall of 2017, according to Indiana Tech.
It’s part of the school’s plan to be “a top-tier Division 1 power” in the Collegiate eSports Association, which they helped found. In fact, the school is building an eSports gaming arena on the second floor of Andorfer Commons, featuring high-end gaming PCs, chairs, lighting and graphics. It’s expected to open in October 2016.
eSports has exploded in popularity in recent years, with the top gamers making millions of dollars.
