Crawford: Electric Works “jeopardized” by Henry administration

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne City Councilman is accusing Mayor Tom Henry of jeopardizing a big economic development project.

The Electric Works project aims to turn the city’s former General Electric campus into a mixed-use development featuring shopping, residential areas, and even educational spaces, but Republican John Crawford tells the News-Sentinel he’s frustrated with an apparent lack of support from Mayor Henry’s administration.

Crawford pointed out that a press conference about the next steps in the project that was supposed to be held yesterday was suddenly put off without explanation. He also says the administration is dragging its feet to get bonds for the project issued in time, with a July 1st deadline on tax credits fast approaching.

The project’s developers, however, say everyone involved is “working diligently.”
