Crash on US 30 leaves one dead and others injured

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – The Indiana State Police are investigating a crash on US 30 that killed one and left two injured.

A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 3:25 p.m. Friday, a 2016 Hyundai Sonata was traveling eastbound on US 30 at County Road 700 E.

When the driver turned north onto Country Road 700, the vehicle struck a westbound 2008 Pontiac Montana.

The Montana rolled over at least once and ejected a passenger from the van.

The passenger was flown by medical helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

The driver of the Montana, 55-year-old Darrell L. Jeffrey of Allen County, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another person involved in the crash was taken to the hospital for injuries.

The westbound lanes of US 30 were closed for two and a half hours after the crash occurred.

The crash is still under investigation.
