Councilmen: Landing Project funding could be jeopardized

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A couple of Fort Wayne City Council members are questioning a streetscape improvement plan that they say would endanger a big redevelopment project.

Councilmen Russ Jehl and Paul Ensley held a press conference this morning to say that plans to spend an additional $1.43-million from the City’s Legacy Fund on new sidewalks and other improvements could jeopardize funding for the $35-million Landing project.

That’s according to the News-Sentinel. The two say when the City Council approved $2.5-million for the project from the Legacy Fund a provision was made that, if additional money was sought, it would completely rescind the deal.

Jehl says the conflict can be avoided if the city looks elsewhere for the money. The full Council will debate the issue tonight.
