City of Fort Wayne may pay more for sidewalk projects

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fixing city sidewalks and curbs may be a little cheaper for Fort Wayne residents.

Thursday morning, Mayor Tom Henry announced a plan to increases the city’s contribution to sidewalk projects.

Through the city’s Barrett Law petition program, the city will pay for 50 percent of concrete sidewalk and curb projects petitioned by residents, according to the city of Fort Wayne.

The city currently splits the bill 60/40, with residents paying for 60 percent of the improvements.

“Maintaining and enhancing our infrastructure is critical to being a city that’s positioned for growth and success,” Henry said. “It keeps our neighborhoods strong, enhances our quality of life and keeps our community moving in the right direction.”

The Fort Wayne Board of Public Works is set to vote on the plan at its regular meeting Wednesday, March 30.
