Businessmen, state officials battle for Indiana GOP bids

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Two of Indiana’s open congressional seats have prompted several wealthy businessmen and prominent lawmakers to battle for Republican nominations.

In southern Indiana’s 9th District, state Attorney General Greg Zoeller faces state Sens. Erin Houchin and Brent Waltz as well as multi-millionaire and Tennessee transplant Trey Hollingsworth.

State Sens. Jim Banks and Liz Brown and agricultural business owner Kip Tom are among those on the May 3 primary ballot in northeastern Indiana’s 3rd District.

Both seats are open with current Congressmen Todd Young and Marlin Stutzman running for U.S. Senate.

With so many prominent candidates and large investments in advertising, the primary winners could emerge with less than half the vote.
